NC truck rear-ends ambulance, 3 EMS crew injured

The pickup’s driver had no license and was charged for operating while impaired; the ambulance was running lights and sirens

WHITEVILLE, N.C. — Three ambulance crew members were injured after an impaired driver rear-ended an ambulance Saturday.

Officials said the ambulance was responding to a call with it’s lights and sirens activated when it stopped to make a turn. The driver of the pickup truck, Jonathan Merritt, crashed into the back of ambulance at approximately 50 to 55 mph, reported WBTV.

The passenger in Merritt’s truck was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Merritt faces charges of driving while impaired and failing to have an operator’s license.
