MARIETTA, Ga. — A Georgia ambulance crew was involved in two rig crashes within one 12-hour shift on Friday, including in a hit-and-run that caused significant damage.
MetroAtlanta Ambulance Service officials say the ambulance crew was responding to an emergency call with lights and sirens activated when their rig was struck the first time, by a vehicle that drove around a bus at an intersection, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. The rig was struck head-on, but the paramedic and EMT on board were not injured and were able to continue responding to calls in another ambulance, according to the Marietta Police Department.
About an hour-and-a-half later, another vehicle struck the crew’s ambulance as it was headed to another call. The second crash caused more extensive damage to the rig, and the driver of the other vehicle fled from the scene on foot, officials said. The suspect had not yet been apprehended as of Monday night.
Despite the two crashes, the ambulance crew remained uninjured and worked to the end of their 12-hour shift, according to MetroAtlanta Ambulance Service.
