OAKFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Four people were injured after an SUV struck an ambulance in Michigan on Monday.

Michigan State Police said the Montcalm County ambulance was transporting a patient when the collision occurred, according to MLive.com. The ambulance rolled over and the patient and two ambulance crewmembers were hospitalized with minor injuries.

The driver of the SUV was pinned and needed to be extricated, officials said. She was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

Michigan State Police stated that drugs, alcohol and speed were factors in the crash. The collision remains under investigation.

Montcalm County Emergency Services released a statement about the crash, saying the crewmember who was driving the ambulance had turned toward a ditch in order to avoid hitting the SUV, which was traveling toward the rig head-on. The ambulance was still struck right behind the driver’s side door, calling it to roll into the ditch.

“The ambulance and everything in it is destroyed. Most importantly, the people are not,” Montcalm County Emergency Services officials wrote.
