COVENTRY, R.I. — A first responder and two others were hospitalized after a 13-year-old boy crashed an ambulance during an evaluation.
WPRI reported that the boy, who has autism, was being evaluated by responders when he got into the driver’s seat of the ambulance and drove it down an embankment, hitting a man on a motorcycle in the process.
The boy, a firefighter on scene and the man on the motorcycle were all transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The firefighter has since been released and the other two are expected to be OK.
Police said the ambulance sustained minor damage and will briefly be out of service.
