1 dead after La. rig rear-ends Jeep, causing explosion

The driver of the Jeep was pronounced dead at the scene, and its passenger was transported to a hospital in Shreveport for severe burns

RUSTON, La. — An ambulance-vehicle crash killed one person and injured another on Jan. 31, KNOE reported.

The ambulance rear-ended a Jeep on Interstate 20, causing an explosion that made both vehicles catch fire, according to Rustin police.

The Jeep driver, Jeep, James Hvamstad, 29, of Honey Island, Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Jeep passenger, Joshua Bass, 31, of Monroe, La., was transported to a Shreveport hospital to be treated for his severe burns.

The EMS providers and patient who was in the ambulance were all treated at North Louisiana Medical Center and released.

The crash is under investigation.
