ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — A medical helicopter was grounded at an incident scene in Fla. on Friday by a plastic bag.
The Trauma One helicopter was responding to a three-vehicle crash on the I-95, according to Action News Jax, but was unable to take off again.
The helicopter got 20 feet into the air, according to News4Jax, before the pilot realized there was a mechanical problem and landed again.
Police on the scene said they heard a humming sound coming from the helicopter and grounded it for three hours as a precaution.
Trauma One flight services manager Chad Mcintyre said later the humming was caused by a plastic bag entering the air intake system.
The two people extricated from the car crash were instead transported to the hospital by an ambulance, where they are in serious condition.
