TUALATIN, Ore. — A seven-car crash on Interstate 5 left two people in critical condition on Tuesday afternoon, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue said.

Tualatin police arrived at the Nyberg Street off-ramp around 4 p.m. to find one car knocked onto its top and another on its side. Gas and fumes leaked from the wreckage, according to the fire department’s statement. Other crashed cars also remained at the scene.

Fire crews soon arrived and worked to stabilize the two upended cars before removing the people trapped inside.

One person was pulled from each of the two overturned cars, the fire department reported. They were taken to a nearby hospital, where they are listed in critical condition.

Some of the people in the other cars in the pileup sustained minor injuries, according to the fire department.

Oregon State Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
