RICHMOND, Va. — A Virginia man was charged with reckless driving and driving without a license after a head-on collision with an ambulance.

The Southside Virginia Emergency Crew ambulance was stationary at the scene of a medical call when it was struck on Saturday, according to WTVR.

“One of our units was hit head on by a drunk driver while sitting stationary on a medical call,” the emergency crew wrote on Facebook. “With the New Years celebration coming up we need to remind everyone to NOT DRINK AND DRIVE!”

Deonte Smith, 40, was arrested following the crash, and was also wanted for contempt of court at the time. Law enforcement officials did not indicate whether he was intoxicated at the time of the collision.
