FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. — The driver of an Okaloosa County EMS ambulance passed out at the wheel before causing a five-vehicle crash Tuesday evening.

According to Nwfdailynews.com, David Keller, 40, was talking with his partners as he drove the ambulance when he began to cough and passed out.

The ambulance hit two vehicles, sending each one into another vehicle. Keller and a driver and passenger in one of the vehicles were taken to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center, according to Nwfdailynews.com. They were treated and later released.

The accident investigation is ongoing and Keller must be cleared by a medical evaluation before he returns to work.
