WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — A man survived a car crash that split his vehicle in half after he slid off the road and hit a tree.

Carlos Pino, 20, lost control of his silver 1986 Nissan 300ZX on a curvy road Tuesday evening, police said.

The man started to slide on the wet road as he negotiated the curve. He overcorrected, losing control of the vehicle, which struck a curb and left the roadway.

The vehicle continued traveling onto the shoulder until it hit a tree. The impact caused the car to split in two, with the front engine compartment on one side of the tree and the cab on the other.

Pino, who was wearing a seatbelt, was airlifted to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police said the wet road and the speed seemed to be a factor in the crash and an investigation is ongoing.
