MUNCIE, Ind. — An Indiana man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly stealing an ambulance and forcing entry into a home.

Officials say Timothy Jay Godsey, 50, stole the Eaton ambulance from outside of IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital shortly after EMS providers transported a patient to the hospital’s cancer center, according to the Star Press. The stolen rig was reportedly driven over a curb and into a stop sign before becoming stuck in mud outside of a home.

The owner of the home reported to police that Godsey then forced himself into the house, pushed her and threw a piece of firewood at her back door, causing glass to shatter. The homeowner also said Godsey told her he was looking for a church.

When officers arrived, Godsey was reportedly sitting in the driver’s seat of the ambulance and wearing an Eaton EMT jacket. Officers pulled Godsey out of the rig after he refused to leave willingly, according to law enforcement officials.

Godsey was arrested and charged with criminal mischief, leaving the scene of a traffic accident, reckless driving, residential entry, resisting law enforcement and theft. His bond was set at $19,500.
