PORTLAND, Ore. — An American Medical Response ambulance and a construction van collided on Interstate 5 southbound Monday morning around 9:30 a.m. The accident blocked one lane of traffic near the Interstate 84 westbound exit beneath the Burnside Bridge.
The ambulance was on its way to the hospital — carrying a patient, a driver and at least one emergency medical responder. The patient had to be transferred on Interstate 5 for ambulance personnel to deal with the aftermath of the crash.
“Our ambulance was [disabled] and we called in another ambulance to reassess the patient,” said Brant Butte, director of communications for AMR Northwest. “We put shoulder straps on our patients, so the patient was not re-injured.”
