Pa. EMS agencies merge to improve community service

Geisinger Health System bought Danville Ambulance Service, which had difficulty staffing shifts

DANVILLE, Pa. — Danville Ambulance Service and Geisinger affiliate Holy Spirit EMS, two Pennsylvania EMS agencies, signed an agreement to merge in July and the merger was confirmed Wednesday, the Daily Item reported.

“We have bought Danville Ambulance, subject to approval,” said Kevin Brannan, Geisinger executive vice president of finance and chief financial officer.

The two organizations and their boards decided that a merger would be mutually beneficial, for them and their communities.

The Danville Ambulance Service, formed 62 years ago, had difficulty staffing shifts. As of last fall, they employed 12 full-time EMTs, nine full-time paramedics and part-time EMTs and paramedics; they also had 11 volunteers.
