Drug reception on cell membrane? Proven!

There has always been a theory that a drug would affect a receptor on a cell membrane by either blocking or stimulating it. Here’s a look at the study that proves it

We have all been taught in EMT and Paramedic school pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics. It has always been a theory of how a drug would affect a receptor on a cell membrane either blocking it or stimulating it.

This hypothesis has now been proven by Robert J. Lefkowitz and Brian K. Kobilka which awarded them the 2012 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. This video column will review their findings proving this hypothesis deserving this prestige award.

Jon Puryear, NREMT-P, has been active in EMS since 1983. He has been an active paramedic since 1992 including being an educator and Field Training Officer for several employers.
