Ky. assistant chief dies after EMS call

WHITESBURG, Ky. — Officials with the City of Whitesburg have announced the death of Whitesburg Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Joe Back.

According to Letcher Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief Wallace Bolling, Back became unresponsive during an EMS call last Friday, WYMT reported.

Back was transported to Pikeville Medical Center, where it was determined he suffered a heart attack. He was later taken off life support.

Back had been involved in emergency services since the mid-1980s.
