Man sentenced to 50 years in rig crash death of Ala. medic

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — A man was sentenced to 50 years in prison after being convicted for causing a 2020 wreck that killed a Care Ambulance paramedic, WSFA reported Wednesday.

According to Montgomery District Attorney Daryl Bailey, Dontorrius Belser was convicted of reckless murder plus two counts of reckless assault in the first degree.

Bailey said that Belser was driving over 70 mph when he ran through a red light and collided with the ambulance.

Paramedic David Mimms was tending to a patient when the crash occurred. He was transported to a hospital and later pronounced dead. His partner and the patient were also injured.
