In this week’s Inside EMS podcast, hosts Chris Cebollero and Kelly Grayson discuss why we do EMS Week backwards.
“We spend one week each year advocating our profession and trying to get the word out about EMS,” Kelly said. What we should do is be advocates for EMS and professionalism the other 51 weeks of the year and take EMS Week off. Take a break. If you’re off, you’re off. If not, we’ll try to treat you better and dial it down a notch for EMS week.”
Chris and Kelly debate the use of nasal cannulas in preoxygenation for intubation in their clinical issue segment.
“After all of these years, are we really in an evidence-based medicine practice?” Chris asks. “We used to go into the nursing homes and rip them, because they had nasal cannulas on these people and they had them turned up to 15 liters. We were making fun of them and saying how stupid they were. In actuality, they were doing it right!”
They also interview international correspondent Rob Lawrence, Chief Operating Officer for the Richmond Ambulance Authority, to discuss the differences and similarities of EMS in London.
