NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. — A stolen ambulance was pulled from a river after being dumped there by suspects, according to witnesses.

Action News JAX reported that the Excelsior Ambulance Services ambulance was stolen from outside the station while an EMS provider left it running while he went inside.

The ambulance ended up 20 feet underwater in St. Mary’s River, and witness Anita Alford said she called 911 after she saw the suspect launch the ambulance off a boat ramp and jump out just before it hit the water.

Alford’s 911 report also said a woman was waiting for the suspect in another vehicle.

Police said the suspects, who have not been caught, drove it for 19 miles before dumping it in the river.

The incident is currently under investigation.
