ALEXANDRIA, Minn. — After an air medical helicopter crashed Sept. 17, a flight paramedic, nurse and pilot remain in critical condition.
Pilot Joshua Jones, 47, flight nurse Scott Scepaniak, 44, and flight paramedic Miles Weske, 34, were seriously injured after the helicopter crashed while on its way to pick up a patient.
Weske’s fiance, Brooke, a flight nurse herself, told CBS Minnesota she and her children are thankful for the outpouring of support they have received.
“We learn early on in EMS and nursing not to get emotionally involved. Now, I get to see that emotional involvement,” she said. “There are thousands of EMS workers across the country and we take it for granted. I think we need to take a good look at it and appreciate everyone.”
Miles Weske sustained multiple injuries, including a fractured neck, broken ribs, a broken sternum and went into cardiac arrest during his first night in the hospital. He is awaiting more surgeries once an infection he’s battling goes away.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for the Weske’s in order to help with medical expenses. Over $12,000 has been raised since the page was created Sept. 21.
