WEATHERFORD, Okla. — The three crew members aboard an Air Evac Lifeteam helicopter were killed in a crash as they returned to their base after completing a patient transport. The names of the crew members aboard the helicopter have not been released.

According to an Air Evac Lifeteam Facebook post the AEL operations control center lost contact with the crew returning from Oklahoma City at 11:23 local time on Saturday, January 20.

“Our primary focus is on supporting the families and our team members,” Air Evac Lifeteam wrote on Facebook. “CISM teams have been sent to assist our team members during this time.”

The helicopter, a Bell 206L3 with call sign N295AE, was based out of Weatherford, Okla. Other Air Evac Lifeteam assisted local law enforcement with searching for the helicopter. The scene and investigation have been handed over to the National Transportation Safety Board.
