OCEAN CITY, Md. — An accidental set-off of a fireworks display on the Ocean City, Maryland, beach Sunday morning left several people injured.
Employees from a local fireworks company were setting up the Fourth of July festivities on the beach when there was an “unintentional discharge,” according to the Ocean City Fire Department.
The employees received “minor injuries” and refused to go to the hospital with Ocean City paramedics. No one else on the boardwalk or beach was injured.
“Our Fire Marshals are on the scene and will investigate the cause of the unintentional discharge,” Ocean City Fire Chief Richie Bowers said in a statement. “Prior to the fireworks being offloaded from the vehicle, Fire Marshals secure a safe zone around the fireworks and put other safety protocols in place. It is this very zone and safety protocols that kept anyone else from being injured.”
Sunday night’s downtown fireworks show was canceled “due to an abundance of caution.”
