SCOTRUN, Pa. — A Scotrun man faces charges after using a flashing red light normally reserved for firefighters and EMTs to get around traffic.
Samuel A. Verducci, 56, was caught on June 26 after a Pocono Township police officer saw him use the red “bubble” light to get a motorist to let him pass on Sullivan Trail.
Police pulled over Verducci’s Chevrolet pickup around 9:30 p.m. He claimed that he had the light because he was a firefighter and ambulance driver a few years ago. But the officer found records that showed Verducci had only acquired the truck in May.
When the officer searched Verducci’s car, he found the red flashing light, a pellet gun, a fake U.S. Marshal badge and handcuffs.
Verducci admitted that he wanted to use the “police image” to pick up women, but denied that he pulled over any vehicles using the red light.
He was charged with two misdemeanor counts of impersonating a public servant. A preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 19.
