EMS car struck by a minivan sent 3 to the hospital Sunday

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A minivan struck an emergency medical services car Sunday afternoon at the intersection of First Colonial and Laskin roads, sending three people to the hosptial.

The EMS car was responding to call around 3:10 p.m. with emergency lights and sirens activated, according to EMS spokesman Chief Bruce Nedelka. The minivan, traveling east on Laskin Road, T-boned the EMS vehicle going south on First Colonial.

The medic driving the EMS vehicle and a recruit with the Virginia Beach Fire Department riding as a student were taken to the hospital. Their injuries appeared to be non-life threatening, Nedelka said.

The driver of the minivan, Josphine Pascarella, 47, of the 2200 block of Volunteer Trial, was taken to the hospital with non-life treating injuries. Police charged her with reckless driving.
