FERGUSON, Mo. — First-responders throughout the metro-east are collecting supplies for public safety and military workers in Ferguson, Mo., who have been handling racial unrest since the fatal police shooting of unarmed teen Michael Brown.

Staff at the St. Clair County Jail along with local police departments in Fairview Heights, O’Fallon, Shiloh and Collinsville will accept donations.

Suggested donations include bottled water, energy and sports drinks and individually packaged snacks like beef jerky, granola, sunflower seeds, trail mix and small bags of chips. Due to safety concerns, all snacks must be individually packaged in the store wrappers.

The departments also will accept donations of anti-bacterial wipes, hand sanitizer and gift cards to Subway or Schnucks -- two businesses near the command post.

Donated items can be dropped off at the Fairview Heights Police Department or the Fairview Fire Department on Ashland through noon Sunday.

O’Fallon and Shiloh police are accepting donations through noon Thursday. Items can be dropped off at the O’Fallon Police Department, 285 N. Seven Hills Road, and the Shiloh Police Department, 3498 Lebanon Ave.

The Collinsville Police Department, 200 W. Clay St., is accepting donations through 5 p.m. Friday.

The St. Clair County Jail, 700 N. 5th St. in Belleville, is accepting donations until 11 a.m. Thursday.
