TERRY COUNTY, Texas — A 38-year-old paramedic was killed in a three-vehicle car crash Friday night.

KCBD.com reported that Carrie Lynn Spann was driving on the wrong side of a highway in the southbound lanes. Spann hit an SUV on the driver’s side while it was traveling southbound. Her vehicle came to a rest in the center median and she was pronounced dead on scene.

Spann was returning home from a shift at work when the crash occurred, according to the report.

The driver of the SUV, 30-year-old Carlson Beltran, was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Spann, who was an organ donor, was a single mother and her sons said she sacrificed so much that her kids could have quality lives. Spann’s mother said someone can now see because Spann’s eyes were match.

“I was like, that’s impossible,” Mikey Spann, Carrie’s son, said. “That’s mom. That’s the strongest person I know, there’s no way she could be gone. She was an amazing, selfless person. She was a hero is what she was. Dedicated her life to helping and saving lives.”

Spann’s colleagues and friends have set up a GoFundMe account to help her three children, ages 19, 16 and 11, and for burial expenses. She also leaves behind her fiancé.

No charges have been filed and the crash is still under investigation.
