LANCASTER, N.Y. — A young paramedic died unexpectedly this week.

Kevin A. Przybyl, 37, who had cystic fibrosis, was always interested in pursuing a career in EMS. He joined the Boy Scouts EMS Explorer program when he was 14, and became an EMT four years later.

Przybyl served as a paramedic for Twin City Ambulance Service and was a dispatcher for the West Seneca Police Department. He was also a volunteer firefighter and EMS chief for the Union Fire Company and Lancaster ambulance corps, reported the Buffalo News.

He moved to Florida in 2005 for health reasons. While there, he founded the Kevin A. Przybyl Breathe Easy Foundation, which helped cystic fibrosis patients pay for lung transplants. Przybyl received a double lung transplant in 2013.

After moving back to New York in 2015, he served as a firefighter-EMT for the Bowmansville Volunteer Fire Company and an EMT for MercyFlight.

He leaves behind a wife and son. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday.
