WEST YORKSHIRE, U.K. — A hospital is investigating after the loved-ones of a man with back problems were mistakenly told he was dying of a heart attack and sent to comfort the wrong man in an ambulance.

Susan Garner, 63, and her son Ryan, 23, were so distraught that Mark Newbould might die they failed to notice the patient was a different man.

Ms. Garner even ‘kissed the man on the forehead and said to him that ‘it will all be alright”, and she and Ryan spent half an hour in the ambulance with him. It was only when the paramedic called the patient ‘Nick’ that the blunder was uncovered. The critically ill patient was wearing an oxygen mask that covered a large part of his face, however he bore similarities to Mark, with ‘a lack of hair and a paunchy stomach, the family say.
