NAEMT Participates in HOSA Conference to Encourage Health Science Students to Explore EMS Careers

Clinton, Miss. — The National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) is working with the Health Occupations Student Association (HOSA) to encourage health science students to explore careers in EMS. Six NAEMT members are participating as judges in the organization’s annual EMS Skills Competition on June 22, which will take place during the HOSA National Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla.

For the skills competition, approximately 106 EMT competitors representing 53 teams will take a test to advance to the second round – the skills competition. Approximately 20 teams, or 40 competitors, will advance. NAEMT judges for this competition are NAEMT President-Elect Don Lundy and members Jeff Lindsay, Charlene Cobb, Kevin Hull, Daniel Talbert and Trevor Hicks. “In the EMS world, recruitment continues to be a constant mission of many organizations. NAEMT is committed to supporting that mission, and I think there is no better organization than HOSA to help recruit in EMS. They are an outstanding group of young people and I am proud and honored to be there as they learn about future careers in EMS,” says Lundy. HOSA is a national student organization endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Education Division of Associations of Career and Technical Education. HOSA’s twofold mission is to promote career opportunities in the health care industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. Since its inception in 1976, HOSA has grown steadily, reaching nearly 120,000 members through 47 chartered HOSA State Associations and approximately 3,200 secondary and postsecondary/collegiate chapters.

Its mission complements that of the NAEMT Foundation, which works to strengthen and build the future of emergency medical services and support a better future for EMS.
