Pittsburgh paramedics rescue 4 trapped in elevator

The Tribune-Review

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh paramedics rescued four people trapped in an elevator Saturday at the veterans hospital on University Drive.

James Holman, a district chief with Pittsburgh Emergency Medical Services, said two adults and two children were stuck in the elevator on the building’s first floor for about 40 minutes when the elevator door malfunctioned. Paramedics opened the doors without force, he said.

“We’ve never had to damage an elevator to get a door open,” Holman said.

No injuries were reported. Paramedics earlier yesterday rescued a woman trapped in an elevator on the eighth floor of The University Club, Holman said.

A spokesperson for the Veterans Affairs Pittsburgh Healthcare System couldn’t be reached for comment.
