The resulting company is now supported by extensive technical resources, an expansive portfolio of patents, and a proven executive team. Backed by funding from VantagePoint Venture Partners and a number of other investors, Safe Life will accelerate its execution in air filtration, wound management, paints and coatings, and the purification of fluids by delivering high-performance products that protect people and the environment from microbial contamination.
The combined company will operate under the name of Safe Life, and Triosyn has become a wholly owned subsidiary. Richard Jaffe is leading the Safe Life team as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Jaffe previously served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SafeSkin Corporation, the leading global manufacturer of disposable latex gloves for professional healthcare and laboratory workers. SafeSkin, which was voted “Best Small Company in America” by Forbes in 1996, was purchased by Kimberly-Clark Corporation in 2000 and continues today as one of the world’s most trusted brands of personal protective equipment. John Metz, former President of Kimberly-Clark’s Professional Healthcare Division, will serve as President and Chief Operating Office, and CM Lee, former Managing Director of Asian Operations for SafeSkin, will be responsible for offshore manufacturing. Several other senior executives from SafeSkin and Kimberly-Clark have also joined the organization. Pierre Jean Messier, Founder of Triosyn Technology, will continue as President and Chief Executive Officer of Triosyn Corp. and will also serve as Vice Chairman and Chief Scientific Officer of Safe Life.
Safe Life’s first product is a facemask based on Triosyn’s novel antimicrobial technology that has been specifically designed to preserve health and business continuity in the face of pandemics, threats of bioterrorism and environmental disasters.
Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy said, “Domestic preparedness is a key issue whether for pandemic flu or an act of bioterrorism.” The World Bank estimates a severe avian flu pandemic among humans could cost the global economy $2 trillion, which represents approximately 5% of the world’s $40 trillion gross domestic product.
