FALLS CHURCH — The American Trauma Society (ATS) Board of Directors and staff welcomed their new Executive Director, Sue Prentiss to the organization. Prentiss succeeds Interim Executive Director Clay Tyeryar. Prentiss will lead the ATS national office efforts in support of trauma system development, trauma education, injury prevention and the rebuilding of lives for victims of trauma and their facilities. The ATS celebrated its 50th year of service on June 27, 2018.
Ms. Prentiss has more than twenty years of experience in emergency medical services (EMS) leadership at the state, regional and national level including serving as the state of New Hampshire’s Trauma System Coordinator. Since 2017, Prentiss has been an Advocate for the Recognition of EMS Personnel Licensure Interstate CompAct (REPLICA) a program of the National Association of State EMS Officials (NASEMSO). She was the manager of EMS at the Concord Hospital Emergency Department (NH), Level II trauma center, since 2010, and before that she worked as the EMS bureau chief for the State of New Hampshire. Currently Ms. Prentiss is serving her fifth two-year term as the city councilor in Lebanon, New Hampshire, and her second term as Lebanon’s mayor.
“The ATS has many opportunities for growth right now, and we need a leader who understands the organization and the current system of trauma care,” stated Dr. Christopher Michetti, president of the ATS Board of Directors. “Sue is the right person to guide the ATS and nurture important relationships.”
Ms. Prentiss received a BA in Sociology from Saint Michael’s College and an MPA from the University of Phoenix. In 2014 Prentiss attended Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government. Prentiss continues to maintain a certification as a nationally registered paramedic.
