ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. — A paramedic was honored for teaching thousands of civilians how to perform CPR.
KSDK reported that paramedic Dave Kroll has spent the last three years sacrificing his weekends to teach over 8,000 people hands-only CPR.
“It’s simple and people need to learn this because it’s keeping people alive and walking out of the hospital,” Kroll said.
Kroll was awarded the 2018 Community Service Award from the Missouri EMS Association for his efforts.
“I’m truly humbled that our Lifesaver CPR efforts are being recognized on a statewide level,” Kroll said, according to a SCCAD press release. “Ninety-five percent of those resuscitated by SCCAD Paramedics and our fire protection district partners receive CPR prior to our arrival on-scene, making bystanders a critical link in the chain of survival.”
The paramedic said the most satisfying thing about teaching CPR to others is the increase of possible lives saved.
“The most satisfying piece is someone can go home to see their family members,” he said. “They get to see their kid’s graduation or grandchild born. That is the most satisfying piece.”
