LOS ANGELES — An officer is being credited with saving an infant’s life after performing CPR.

CBS Los Angeles reported that the infant was thrown to the ground during a fight between his parents. LAPD Officer Alex Frazier’s partner, Officer Ivan Ibarra, found the infant in his mom’s arms when they arrived on scene.

“She was saying, ‘my mijo, my mijo,’” Officer Frazier said. “She seemed like she was grieving.”

Officer Ibarra spoke to the mother in Spanish to convince her to allow Frazier to perform CPR on the lifeless infant.

“After a little bit of time, the baby’s lip twitched. So I relayed the message to everybody that, ‘Hey, he’s in there.’ After a little bit more time, I saw a little more facial expression,” Frazier said.

The officers followed paramedics to the hospital, where they were told the baby would be OK.

Frazier said it was the first time he’s ever performed CPR.

“I went home immediately and kissed my kids,” Frazier said.

The infant’s father was later arrested.
