1. Where did your company name originate from?
Our name comes from our founder, Dr. Paul Zoll, who is considered to be the father of modern electrophysiology. Dr. Zoll was a practicing physician throughout his life with a reputation for careful and dedicated attention to his patients. He was awarded the Lasker Award in 1973 and recognized as a Pioneer in Cardiac Pacing by the North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology (NASPE) in 1989.
2. What was the inspiration behind starting your company?
In 1980, Dr. Paul Zoll cofounded ZOLL Medical, of which ZOLL Data Systems is a division. His dedication to patient care and seminal work in electrophysiology, internal and external defibrillation, cardioversion, and external pacing inspired the company’s founding. Forty years later, the company culture remains focused on new technology and improvements in care provided by that technology — very much a continuation of Dr. Zoll’s vision.
3. What is your signature product and how does it work?
Our signature product is our integrated suite of operations solutions for EMS and fire agencies. Our solutions suite integrates dispatch, patient charting (ePCR), and billing functions, empowering our customers to deliver more, from better patient outcomes to greater revenue capture.

Our products are essential because they drive better clinical and operational outcomes in an industry that demands the highest levels of efficiency and performance. We are unique in healthcare because we have a remarkably strong foundation in both software development and capital equipment manufacturing. Combining the life-saving power of best-in-class devices (defibrillators, ventilators, automated CPR) with the software expertise to extract, manage, analyze and present the data generated by those devices where it’s needed is what separates us from our competition.
