Spotlight: ZOLL Data Systems to deliver more from better patient outcomes to greater revenue capture
The company's main focus is to drive better clinical and operational outcomes in an industry that demands the highest levels of efficiency and performance
Company Name: ZOLL Data Systems
Headquarters: Broomfield, Colorado
1. Where did your company name originate from?
Our name comes from our founder, Dr. Paul Zoll, who is considered to be the father of modern electrophysiology. Dr. Zoll was a practicing physician throughout his life with a reputation for careful and dedicated attention to his patients. He was awarded the Lasker Award in 1973 and recognized as a Pioneer in Cardiac Pacing by the North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology (NASPE) in 1989.
2. What was the inspiration behind starting your company?
In 1980, Dr. Paul Zoll cofounded ZOLL Medical, of which ZOLL Data Systems is a division. His dedication to patient care and seminal work in electrophysiology, internal and external defibrillation, cardioversion, and external pacing inspired the company’s founding. Forty years later, the company culture remains focused on new technology and improvements in care provided by that technology — very much a continuation of Dr. Zoll’s vision.
3. What is your signature product and how does it work?
Our signature product is our integrated suite of operations solutions for EMS and fire agencies. Our solutions suite integrates dispatch, patient charting (ePCR), and billing functions, empowering our customers to deliver more, from better patient outcomes to greater revenue capture.
4. Why do you believe your products are essential to the EMS community?
Our products are essential because they drive better clinical and operational outcomes in an industry that demands the highest levels of efficiency and performance. We believe that data and insights derived from data generated by our solution suite give healthcare professionals in EMS and fire the power to drive better decisions — decisions that help improve outcomes for their patients, operational outcomes for their business, and financial outcomes for their bottom line.
5. What makes your company unique?
We are unique in healthcare because we have a remarkably strong foundation in both software development and capital equipment manufacturing. Combining the life-saving power of best-in-class devices (defibrillators, ventilators, automated CPR) with the software expertise to extract, manage, analyze and present the data generated by those devices where it’s needed is what separates us from our competition.
6. What do your customers like best about you and our products?
Customers appreciate that with ZOLL Data Systems they have a partner committed to their success. They see us as much more than just another vendor. We deliver great products, training, support, guidance and thought leadership in the industry.
7. What is the most rewarding part of serving the EMS community?
We respect that healthcare professionals in EMS and fire have difficult and critically important jobs. We are dedicated to relieving part of their burden — through integrated software that optimizes automation and frees up time to focus on patient care; through billing solutions that helps maximize reimbursement in an industry where every dollar counts; and through clinical systems that help them save more lives. Knowing that our solutions ease their burden is deeply rewarding.
