Time management may be your answer! What time do you get up? Do you have to be at work at 6 a.m. to do a 12- or 24-hour shift?
DON’T wake up 30 minutes before your shift, throw on your uniform and eat some pre-packaged food or do the “fast food thing.”
DO manage the food you eat by planning out your meals ahead of time. Part of managing your time in this business is managing your food as well, especially if you’re overweight.
Before going to bed, take 30 minutes to plan what you’re going to eat during your shift. Take control of what you put in your mouth. If you practice this time management skill, believe me, it will get easier and eventually will just become routine. It’s about taking control of your food, not letting (crappy) food control you!
Go buy some Tupperware, an Igloo cooler and a couple of those ice packs to keep your food safe. Start cooking some good, nutritional food. Here are some healthy choices:
- Protein: Chicken breast or tenders, turkey. White meat has less fat than dark.
- Vegetables: Steam some broccoli, green beans or asparagus and have it over brown rice. Brown rice has more fiber than white, and can be found in microwavable packages too.
- Fruit: Fruits are good too, but watch out for the sweet ones, which contain a lot of fructose (fruit sugar). So have an apple here or a banana there.
- Water: You must drink nothing but water! Sodas and fruit drinks contain a lot of sugar.
Now you’re saying, “But I don’t like water!” The solution is to cut up some lemons and squeeze the fat-free nectar into your water. If you don’t like lemon, find a fruit you do like instead. If you want to loose the weight and feel better about yourself, then take the necessary steps toward getting healthier today.
