SHAMOKIN, Pa. — The sight of a paramedic on a bicycle seems to be an irresistible invitation for comedy.
“We’ve gotten a few comical remarks from people,” said Damian Ober, paramedic supervisor of AREA Services. “‘Where do you put the patient?’ ‘Where do you fit the stretcher?’” Ober said with a chuckle. “All in fun, of course.”
The driving force behind the company’s new two-wheeled squad of four paramedics and six emergency medical technicians (EMTs), Ober tried to get the whole thing rolling about five years ago. The idea was toyed with for about a year or two before finally falling by the wayside.
