Southwest Ambulance Receives National “Gold Standard” Recognition From CAAS

TUCSON, Ariz. — The Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS) has recognized Southwest Ambulance as the only provider in Arizona to currently hold national accreditation, and only the second in New Mexico.

“This isn’t like filling out a one-page application. The process includes a comprehensive self-assessment that takes several months and an independent outside review of the entire operations,” said Jeff Sargent, Sr. Vice President of Southwest Ambulance’s Southern Arizona and New Mexico Operations. “We’re very excited and honored to be Arizona’s only and the second agency in New Mexico to hold this national accreditation.”

Based initially on the efforts of the American Ambulance Association, the independent Commission established a comprehensive series of standards for the ambulance service industry. Accreditation signifies that Southwest Ambulance has met the “gold standard” determined by the ambulance industry to be essential in a modern emergency medical services provider. These standards often exceed those established by state or local regulation.

All ambulance systems are eligible for the three-year accreditation including private, public, fire department and hospital-based. CAAS was established to encourage and promote quality patient care in America’s medical transportation system.

Southwest Ambulance’s Southern Arizona Operations, and its Las Cruces, New Mexico Operations received the accreditation.
