PITTSBURGH — A wrong-way drunk driver is facing charges after crashing into an ambulance Thursday morning.

Police said Jacob Pamphyle, 27, drove his vehicle through a tunnel before crashing head-on into the ambulance.

The ambulance was not carrying a patient, but four EMS providers were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash, reported Pittsburgh CBS. None of them were injured, although the ambulance sustained serious damage.

Pamphyle was transported to the hospital following the crash and was treated for minor injuries. He also had his blood drawn to test his blood-alcohol levels.

“Spoke to him at the scene and he was very impaired and a lot of his statements were incoherent,” state trooper Adam Dancho said. “He said that he had consumed alcoholic beverages.”

Officials said they are in the process of filing DUI charges against Pamphyle.
