Indian EMS providers to use motorcycles for quick response

The bikes will be introduced on a probationary basis to alleviate slow response times in congested areas of New Delhi

NEW DELHI, India — Officials are looking to decrease response times in highly-congested areas with motorcycle ambulances.

NDTV reported that the first responder vehicles were approved in a vote in order to improve emergency response.

“This facility would provide quick prehospital care response in congested areas. It shall reduce the incidence of mortality and morbidity by ensuring that patients receive appropriate medical care within the ‘golden hour,’” Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal said.

The FRVs will be used to supplement existing ambulances by getting through traffic easier so the paramedic can provide quick care to the patient until the ambulance arrives.

“These FRVs will be driven by trained paramedics and they shall carry basic first aid kit, medical and other requisite items,” Baijal said.
