CORBIN, Ky. — “It is such an amazing gesture to have this ambulance spreading autism awareness,” Jennifer Gray, of Corbin, said during Thursday’s event revealing an ambulance wrapped in handprints of Whitley County children with autism.
“My hope is that it will teach other people to be accepting of all people no matter their differences.” Director of Special Education Dana Hale with Williamsburg Independent Schools said children with autism look just like other children, calling autism an “invisibility disability.”
The autism ambulance is the second ambulance specially wrapped as a joint project between the Whitley County Fiscal Court and Whitley EMS. Having a third ambulance wrapped is being considered.
