JACKSON, Ky. — A 2016 lawsuit regarding a sheriff’s deputy pulling over an EMT during a patient transport has been settled.
U.S. News reported the lawsuit said that Breathitt County Special Deputy Darrell McIntosh illegally pulled over EMT Jason Crigger, with Arrow-Med Ambulance, a competing agency, while he was transporting a patient to intimidate him.
McIntosh did not admit to the incident, and didn’t appear to contribute to the $26,000 payout that Crigger received.
McIntosh said he saw Crigger do “something on his cellphone” and pulled him over for careless driving.
The lawsuit claimed that McIntosh did not talk about the traffic violation, but instead “proceeded to verbally harass [Crigger] over a private civil allegation.”
U.S. District Judge Danny Reeves did not resolve whether McIntosh had a legal justification to pull over Crigger.
