BELLMORE, N.Y. — A New Jersey man was arrested on Tuesday for defrauding a Long Island EMS company of $1.6 million, authorities said.

Brad Reiter, 50, who served as both treasurer and president of Bellmore-Merrick EMS at various points, is accused of pilfering funds from the organization between March 2008 and March 2015, Acting Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas said.

Reiter is believed to have spent the swiped funds on credit card and insurance bills, a security system and lawn services — and even wrote checks to himself, Singas said in a statement.
