Man saved by injured paramedic: ‘She’s God’s gift to me’

The paramedic convinced the man to take better care of his diabetes

RAYMOND, Miss. — William Shelton never forgets a face. Especially when the face is a sweet person he feels saved his life.

Three days after his March 22 65th birthday, the Raymond resident said, AMR paramedic Jennifer Hesselbein saved his life. Hesselbein remains hospitalized at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in the surgical intensive care unit after being struck July 31 on the job by an allegedly drunk driver while she was tending to an injured Jackson pedestrian.

He will always remember what Hesselbein did for him. He wants to visit Hesselbein to let her know how much he appreciates her, and to wish her get well.

“I’ll never forget her face, or her voice,” Shelton said. “I can promise you …That girl. She’s God’s gift to me.”
