PORT MACQUARIE, Australia — An Australian surfer was attacked by a shark, the animal biting off a couple of the man’s fingers.
A paramedic on the scene said the unidentified surfer lost two fingers and suffered bites to one of his legs.
Witnesses told ITN that the man fought off the shark with his surfboard. His friends, also surfing nearby, used their surfboards to beat the shark away. Paramedics say the man’s friends may have saved his life.
The man was taken by paramedics to an ambulance and airlifted to a nearby hospital where is reported to be in stable condition.
