CHICAGO — A 36-year-old woman defense attorneys say is a licensed emergency medical technician has been charged with aggravated battery following a scuffle with two other rescue workers who came to her aid this weekend, according to authorities.
Delight Cherry of the 1900 block of North Halsted Street, Chicago, was seen lying in the middle of the street near the 1000 block of West Armitage Avenue on Sunday, according to Cook County prosecutors.
When EMTs from the Chicago Fire Department tried to assist her she lashed out, striking both, prosecutors said. Cherry was transported to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center for alcohol detoxification, according to court records.
She has been charged with two counts of aggravated battery and appeared Monday before Cook County Judge Donald Panarese who set her bail at $75,000.
An attorney for Cherry said she is a licensed EMT, but that could not immediately be verified in state records. She is due back in court Sept. 9.
