AYLESBURY, England — A paramedic was stabbed by a patient with a screwdriver as he was treating him in the back of an ambulance.
The patient was believed to be suffering a stroke and was being transported to a hospital, The Telegraph reported.
The police said the medic was “just doing his job” when the patient stabbed him in the abdomen with a screwdriver.
The medic, who is in his 30s, was assisted by his co-worker as more officers were called to the scene.
The paramedic was reported in serious but not life-threatening condition.
A 43-year-old man was later arrested and remains in custody.
“This was a completely unprovoked attack on a paramedic, who was just doing his job, trying to save the life of a member of the public,” said Detective Ben Giddings. “This case highlights the dangers that the emergency services face every day simply carrying out their work.”
