Pa. ER patient charged in assault of nurse, medic

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — An emergency room patient at St. Luke’s University Hospital, Fountain Hill, assaulted a nurse and paramedic early Saturday, according to court records.

Hector Figueroa-Santana, 29, of Bethlehem allegedly kicked and punched hospital staff and threatened to assault everyone in the ER.

Fountain Hill police said Figueroa-Santana charged into a registered nurse, injuring her shoulder. He also spit on a Bethlehem Township paramedic who was trying to hold him down, police said. The paramedic told police Figueroa-Santana attempted to bite him in the face, according to court records.

Police did not say why Figueroa-Santana was at the hospital.

Figueroa-Santana, of the 700 block of East Fourth Street, was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment. He was arraigned by District Judge Robert Halal and sent to Lehigh County Prison under $40,000 bail.
