SAN FRANCISCO — Two paramedics with the San Francisco Fire Department were attacked by a man with a wooden stake who stole their ambulance and attempted to run them over, CBS Bay Area reported.

The providers were inside the ambulance when a man approached, wielding a wooden tree stake, and began “smashing windows and trying to assault them,” a post by San Francisco Firefighters Local 798 said.

After stealing the ambulance, the man aimed for the medics who vacated the vehicle and the suspect allegedly tried to run them over as they fled. He then took several laps in the ambulance around a Best Buy parking lot, before abandoning the rig and escaping on foot.

No injuries were reported by the paramedics, but photos showed the extent of the damage to the ambulance.

“This behavior in our City is not acceptable,” the post by the firefighter’s union read. “Last week our own union hall was broken into and ransacked. @SFPD responded and caught the burglar [sic] but not before he did thousands of dollars of damage. We have all [been] patient enough. It’s time for some changes.”

The ambulance will remain out of service until the damage can be repaired.
