New publication aims to improve understanding of scientific literature in EMS

In EMS, there is a need to have more access to fact-based and cited sources

MACON, Ga. — Increased exposure to cited and scholarly articles are one of the best ways Evidence Based Medicine can flourish. In EMS, there is a need to have more access to fact-based and cited sources. To further this movement toward Evidence Based Medicine, a group of editors, writers and peer-reviewers have come together to present “The White Paper.”

Mark Bandy, NRP, Editor of The White Paper, has been working with his team over the past four months to bring this publication to life.

“The goal of this project is to utilize proven science writers that are fluent on how to write in an expository style to reduce any bias within the subject matter,” Bandy said. “We then aimed at topics that are emerging or are having an impact on your day-to-day EMS practice. These articles are not meant to be scholarly articles that are cited, but windows into the topics that lead you to the cited sources.”

Bandy said that some of the articles may be above the level of the average EMS provider.

“I believe as a profession we should strive to learn more and more every day. We need to understand the “hows” and “whys” of our practice so we can be more than just protocol technicians. This will make us stronger as individual clinicians and as an overall practice of medicine.”

The White Paper became available on April 1 and the issue price is a dollar. To purchase your copy, please visit www.emswhitepaper.com.
