ST. PAUL, Minn. — A pregnant woman gave CPR to her husband, and he woke up from a coma just in time for her to give birth.

KSTP reported that Andrew and Ashley Goette were at their home when Andrew went into cardiac arrest.

Ashley, who was 39 weeks pregnant, performed CPR on Andrew until paramedics arrived and transported him to the hospital.

“In the first hours of treatment at the ER and ICU the prognosis was dire,” a GoFundMe page set up for the family said. “CT and MRI scans, along with clinical signs, pointed to catastrophic brain injury. The team of specialists treating Andrew prepared the family for the worst ... it was likely he would not wake up from this.”

Andrew was put into a medically-induced coma to prevent further brain damage.

“Although there was fear he might have suffered severe damage from the cardiac arrest, when he was warmed and awakened on Wednesday, he turned out to be fully responsive and neurologically intact,” who said?

Soon after Andrew woke up from his coma, it was time for Ashley to be induced. Andrew wanted to be by her side when she gave birth, so doctors postponed his scheduled heart procedure and moved him into Ashley’s room so he could meet baby Lennon.

A GoFundMe update said Andrew’s heart procedure was a “great success.”

“(The doctors were) extremely happy with the results and said his heart went from ‘pretty messed up’ to ‘bad ass’... he should feel better than he ever has going forward!” the update said.
